Praise the Lord, Ella Joy’s counts were high enough to start the maintenance phase of chemotherapy treatment! Thank you so much to Carli and Elijah for watching over Asaph while Ella Joy got a spinal tap, vincristine chemo, and her blood counts.
We started prednisone as well as her 6mp pills. Please pray for us as it has been a tough start with her meds. The wrong pills were ordered and also the wrong dosage was given to us. We made a night call after we had given her too many prednisone pills as we were directed. We knew something was wrong was because there were not enough pills for the dosages that we were given. Thank God for that! Please pray all the nurses and doctors and pharmacists would work together to give us the correct medications and dosages. Although we are only going to Luries once a month now, Ella Joy has 10X more drugs that we need to give her each day then ever before! Please pray we would have wisdom as we administer these drugs to her at home. Please also pray that she would be able to take these drugs without any problems. Every 7 days except for the week of her spinal taps, we need to give her 6 tablets of methotrexate all at once. We also need to give her 1.5 mercaptopurine or 6mp pills on MWF, and then 1 on TThSS. 10 mg Prednisone we must give her 3 tabs in the morning and 3.5 tabs in the evening for 5 days every 4 weeks with the vincristine. Spinal taps, Ella Joy will get once a month with the exception of month 3, and then after one year, she will get them every three months along with vincristine chemo pushes every month. There are a lot of drugs and chemotherapy treatments to remember and every day there are different dosages and times to give her the pills and drugs. In addition to all these new pills she needs to take daily, the Bactrim she usually takes 2X a day on the weekends has been out of stock and the homemade compound that the pharmacy made for her, Ella Joy cannot get down, so we need to go to pill form until they restock. This adds another set of 4 pills for the weekend. I am praying everyday that the company will be able to reorder the liquid Bactrim that Ella Joy is used to taking!
Please pray I would not be stressed out by all the medications and drugs I need to administer to her each day, and also that I would not be frustrated when I am given the wrong set of drugs with the wrong dosages for her. All these pills will need to be a part of her every day life, and I need to pray that I would not get discouraged after any switchbacks that happen.
“Life is not a straight line leading from one blessing to the next and then finally to heaven. Life is a winding and troubled road. Switchback after switchback. And the point of biblical stories like Joseph and Job and Esther and Ruth is to help us feel in our bones (not just know in our heads) that God is for us in all these strange turns. God is not just showing up after the trouble and cleaning it up. He is plotting the course and managing the troubles with far-reaching purposes for our good and for the glory of Jesus Christ.”
― John Piper, A Sweet and Bitter Providence: Sex, Race, and the Sovereignty of God
Please pray that my heart would remember these Bible verses:
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 4:19
as well as the always encouraging …
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28.
The next time we go to Luries is on August 7th Thursday. Please pray that her spinal tap would go well and her chemotherapy push of vincristine would also go smoothly. Thank you so much for praying with us Saints of God! We appreciate and need your prayers! May God continue to protect and strengthen Ella Joy’s little body even as she is taking all these drugs and pills for this phase of her chemotherapy treatment.
